LAGOS OCEAN SURGE: FOUR MORE BODIES RECOVERED.
Four more bodies were found ashore on Monday, bringing the number recovered from Atlantic Ocean surge in Lagos to eight. About 16 people were reported to have been swept into the ocean by the surge on Saturday.
Some traders at Kuramo Beach, on Monday said three of the bodies were discovered at Bar Beach, about 300 metres from where the surge tore into cabins and swept people away. Sunday Ikuwesanu, a security guard at the Kuramo Beach said the bodies were those of a little girl, a female adult and two other security guards.
He said, “I have seen the bodies of two of my colleagues, Benson and Joseph. Two other bodies were also recovered. There was a little girl, who can’t be more than three years, and a female adult.
“We will be on the lookout in the next three days to see if we can be able to recover more bodies.”
A fun seeker, Steve Richards, said the security guards who lost their lives were swept away by the high waves while trying to rescue people at the shoreline.
He said, “I was in one of the cabins when the surge sacked the beach around 2am. The security guards actually took a boat and went to the shore to rescue people, but unfortunately, they were swept away in the process.
“As a result of this, we all ran to save our lives. It was such a terrible incident. The surge eroded the beach side and the Kuramo Village we used to have is no more.”
It was gathered that the bodies were taken away by families and friends of the victims.
This is really pathetic!
