Airtel Restates Commitment To Youth Empowerment Through Music
Lagos, Nigeria; 15th May, 2014: In line with its commitment to consistently encourage and empower Nigerian youths to achieve their dreams through various platforms, leading telecommunications services provider, Airtel Nigeria, has unveiled a music talent-hunt initiative tagged, ‘Airtel One Mic,’ aimed at discovering talents in various institutions in Ogun and Lagos States.
The project, a platform for talented youths in tertiary institutions to express themselves, hone their skills and discover opportunities to achieve their dreams in the entertainment industry, was unveiled on Monday in Lagos with prolific music producer ID Cabasa and Nigerian rapper and singer, Reminisce, in attendance to motivate the participants.
Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of Airtel Nigeria, Mr. Segun Ogunsanya, described the project as one of the ways which Airtel Nigeria continues to help discover and empower talents in Nigeria. In his words; “The stable of the telco is replete with quality initiatives designed to help Nigerian youths achieve their dreams and aspirations. As an innovative Telco, Airtel remains a trailblazer in helping Nigerian youths to come alive.”
Relating to the company’s other efforts at discovering musical talents in the country, Ogunsanya in his address stated that barely four months after the successful completion of the Airtel sponsored Season 2 of the Nigeria’s Got Talent (NGT), the company’s decision to unveil the Airtel One Mic is to create additional avenues to uncover and tap the rich talents, creativity and skills of Nigerian youths”.

Airtel One Mic is a testimony to our dedication, commitment and unwavering support to every Nigerian youth. At Airtel, we believe that this unparalleled platform will facilitate the dreams and ambition of our youths in various intitutions who have deep interest in music and entertainment.”
Mr. Ogunsanya added that the Airtel Nigeria with its range of innovative products and services will continue to support youths and all Nigerians by helping them to succeed in their personal and professional lives.
The music talent-hunt project has been designed to involve universities and polytechnics in Ogun and Lagos States. In Ogun state, auditions for the best music talent have already commenced in Moshood Abiola Polytechnic (MAPOLY), Abeokuta and will also take place at Federal University of Agriculture Abeokuta (FUNAAB) and The Bells University, Otta before the end of May, 2014.
In each of the school, the best two contestants will be selected and the six finalists will then compete at the grand finale where a winner will emerge.
The lucky winner of the competition will be rewarded with a brand new KIA Picanto and a recording contract with ID Cabasa’s Coded Tunes, The second phase of the project is billed to take place in selected tertiary institutions in Lagos, later in the year.
