5 Ways to Empower Your Event Team This Year
The success of your event is due in large part to the skills and hard work of your team. So this year, make a resolution to help your team learn, grow, and become even better at orchestrating buzz-worthy events. Here are five ways to nurture your crew in the new year.
1. Trust Your Team
The best way to empower the members of your staff is to give them your trust. Micromanaging will not only make it harder for you to get your work done, but it will make your team doubt their abilities and fall short of the work they are capable of. Instead of babysitting them and keeping an eagle eye on all their tasks, mentor them and give them the chance to come to you with questions. Giving each person ownership of his or her tasks will give you spectacular results.
2. Give Them the Tools They Need
Technology is a crucial part of producing a great event, and it’s becoming more indispensable every day. You can make everything from early planning to check-in to attendee follow up easier on your team with the right tools. A guest list app can speed up your check in process and make sure your attendees spend less time waiting in line and more time enjoying the event you and your team have worked so hard to produce.
3. Play To Your Team’s Strengths
We’re going to guess that all of your team members have hidden talents or areas of their job that they are really passionate about. Playing to those strengths and passions will not only keep your team happy and engaged, but it will shine through to your clients and guests. To kick things off, ask each team member to identify one new role or responsibility they’d like to take on this year, then help them nurture that goal.
4. Teach Them to Use Social Media Wisely
Social media can be one of the best ways to get the word out about your event, and to build relationships with potential clients. Encourage your team members to be active on social media. Posting a few updates per week either about events you have coming up or events they’ve attended can help build a robust online community.
5. Encourage Them to Attend Other Events
One of the best ways your team can learn how to be better is by example. Encourage your staffers to attend events of all kinds. Charitable organizations can drill down ideas from big fashion galas and corporate retreats can inject a bit of life with ideas from avant-garde art events. You never know where inspiration will come from, so encourage team members to always be on the lookout.
From encouraging team members to set goals and find inspiration in unlikely places to supporting them with the tools they need, taking steps to build a stronger, smarter, more empowered team this month will make 2015 your best year yet.
