Birthday Tragedy: Six Student Killed As Balcony Collapsed During 21st Birthday Party

Five Irish students and one American were killed when an apartment balcony collapsed during a party in the early hours of Tuesday . The group of around 14 people fell when the 5ft by 10ft balcony completely detached from the wall and flipped over. Four people died at the scene and one died in hospital.

Seven other students, also from Ireland, were injured. Some have critical, life-threatening wounds following the tragedy at an apartment building just blocks from the University of California, Berkeley.

The balcony collapsed during a party celebrating a 21st birthday,The Irish Times reported. A number of the students were from Dublin and others from across Ireland.
