Police Arrest Two Offa Bank Robbery Prime Suspects

The Nigerian police on Monday said they had arrested two of the four prime suspects declared wanted in connection with the Offa bank Robbery in Kwara state last month. The development comes three weeks after the police circulated pictures of four suspects who were captured by closed-circuit camera of the banks that they attacked.

A statement issued by Jimoh Moshood, Force Public Relations Officer, said two out of the four gang leaders and principal suspects, who were declared wanted and their pictures circulated to the media and the public on the 4th of May, 2018, had been arrested by the joint Police Investigation Team.

He said the two vicious and notorious suspects confessed to be the gang-leaders of their groups. According to the statement, one of the suspects is Kunle Ogunleye aka Arrow, who is a native of Kwara, was arrested on 20th May, 2018, in Oro town.

The second suspect, Micheal Adikwu, is a native of Apa LGA Benue State, a dismissed Police CPL who was arrested, tried and dismissed from the Force and charged to court by the Police in 2012 in Kwara for criminal conspiracy and aiding the escape from lawful custody of armed robbery suspects.

Moshood said Adikwu had served three years in prison and subsequently found his way out in 2015 and became a vicious and notorious gang leader of armed robbery syndicate wanted for several armed robberies in Kwara and other States of the North Central and South West.

He added that Adikwu was arrested by the police intelligence response team (IRT) in Kwara two weeks ago, about a week after the police declared him wanted and circulated his picture to the public.

“The arrest of these two gang leaders have brought to 22 suspects arrested so far by the Nigeria Police Force in connection to the Offa Banks Robbery.

“The two suspects have confessed to the crime and admitted to the various criminal roles they played in the Offa banks robbery. They will be charged to court on completion of investigation.

“They are assisting the IRT teams in arresting more of the bank robbers as the police continue the investigation,” the statement read.
