My Experience From An Event : Nigerians and The Unofficial ‘African Time Formula ‘
Why do Nigerians like getting to events late? (The African Time mentality). I attended an event scheduled for 10am this morning. I arrived at 9:45am . The event didn’t start until 11:25. Guests were already seated, Press men were already set but the hosts for the event were no where to be found. For good one hour twenty five minutes.
Two months ago, I attended a wedding where guests had arrived. The couple had also arrived but the decorator was still setting up. Celebrities and other guests including me were hanging around while waiting for the decorator to sort herself. The Bride was very furious. Reception that was meant to start at 3pm didn’t start until 4:30pm.
Industry events ( Concerts etc) are even worse. I try as much as I can to arrive at events early enough.. but when the hosts keep guests waiting.. it becomes very disrespectful and annoying.
I was just vexing today but I didn’t have a choice than to wait.
Is there a way to get people to arrive to an event on time?
