Oscars 2020 : Academy Adds New Category to Award, Cuts Down Telecast Time

The board of governors for Oscars have announced a new category ahead of the 2020 edition while announcing a cut in the hours of telecast to three hours.

And the newest category to be contested for at the 2020 Oscars is the “Outstanding Achievement in Popular Film.”

According to a report by Collider, the Academy’s board of governors announced the introduction of the new category as one of the changes to the Oscars.

The board of governors also announced that the telecast of the awards ceremony will now be limited to three hours.

The limitation of telecast time literally interprets to presentation of some awards off-air – as it is done in the MTV Movie Awards.

The board of governors have also announced a change in the date of the 2020 Oscars.

The Academy announced that the 2020 edition of the Oscars will be held on February 9, 2020 – an earlier date with shorter voting window.
