Restaurant Review: Chotto Matte, Toronto
I’m on holidays on North America and went to Toronto for a few days and while I was there I was invited to have dinner at Chotto Matte Toronto. It’s owned by Kurt Zdesar a restaurateur, who was born in Sydney Australia and had begun his career very early in the hospitality industry. Having moved to Europe early in his life, London became the platform for Kurt. Kurt Zdesar was the European Director for Nobu. Before founding his own restaurant which I must says is a very nice restaurant and a different version of Nobu.
The interior was lovely and the meal service came out in a mysterious way, where your server (waiters are called servers in Toronto) guides the way the different servings come to you so your pallet enjoys the entire meal.
The Cuisine is a mix of Japanese and Peruvian. The spices were definitely Peruvian and the sushi was great but my favorite was the grilled octopus. On the menu its called Tentaculos de Pulpo.
Everything was spectacular, going to the bathroom was like going through a kaleidoscope.
I wondered to myself if Lagos will get one of these Asian Fusion restaurants soon. The closest we had was a place called Saipan on Bishop Oluwole. Saipan and Chotto Matte are on different levels. Saipan being on the ground floor and Chotto Matte on the Penthouse. By the way Chotto Matte in Japanese means “wait a second” Japanese say that all the time like Nigerians say “No Wahala”. For those of you who travel to London and Miami often, there is a Chotto Matte in those cities and the New York restaurant will be opening soon.
It’s the perfect place to impress anyone. If it’s a romantic interest she will be knocked for six. If it’s a business lunch or dinner you’ll close the deal for sure and if it’s just friends out on the night. It’s a great place. The bar lounge is very different from most places I’ve been to. Very pleasing to the eyes, like being in the present and the future at the same time.
High marks on all fronts, cocktails were great, service was like being in your own personal cooking show especially with the view of the 5 kitchens were different flavors are prepared. A must visit. ?? ??
