South Africa Named World’s Leading Safari Destination For 2014

South Africa was announced as the World’s Leading Safari Destination at the 21st World Travel Awards, as voted by travel agents worldwide.

The awards, held in Anguilla in the Caribbean on 7 December 2014, further entrenched South Africa’s reputation as a sought-after destination.

South Africa edged out last year’s winner, Kenya, as well as the other nominees: Botswana, Namibia, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe.

Apart from South Africa itself being recognised as a country at the awards, the following South African establishments won World Awards in their respective categories:

· World’s Leading Safari Resort 2014: Legend Golf & Safari Resort

· World’s Leading Eco-Lodge 2014: Shamwari Game Reserve – Eagles Crag Lodge. This is the second consecutive year that this establishment has claimed the title in this category.

· World’s Leading Boutique Hotel 2014: Saxon Hotel, Villas and Spa. This is the 15th consecutive year that this establishment has claimed the title in this category.

· World’s Leading Luxury Lodge 2014: Thanda Private Game Reserve

· World’s Leading Private Game Reserve 2014: Shambala Private Reserve. This is the second consecutive year that this establishment has claimed the title in this category.

· World’s Leading Luxury Safari Company 2014: &Beyond. This is the second consecutive year that this establishment has claimed the title in this category.
