Avoiding The  “Food Don Finish Syndrome” At Your Party.

We all know that the height of any party in this part of the world is food and drinks, people even wake up and get dressed to an event uninvited just for the food. You’ll agree with me that a party without food in Nigeria is as good as NO PARTY. But many people spend a fortune to organize an event and still end up having the usual scenarios of guests not getting served food. In some cases, it’s few guests who do not get served but in some sad cases, it’s a good number of guests especially the ones very important to the celebrant. To avoid such embarrassing scenarios, here are some tips I put together:

1. Have A Very Good Budget For Food: It is said that if you fail to plan, then you plan to fail. So it is very important that you have a good budget for food and you ask, what’s a good budget? I say, it’s one that has plans for extra number of guests because it’s common to find both invited and uninvited guests at events. You therefore need to include in your budget, extra food and drinks. It is better for you to have food and drinks in excess than shortage.

2. Employ Good Catering Services: Oh, I’ve heard people say “I don’t need a caterer, my friend or I know someone that cooks well” some are even of the opinion that caterers don’t cater for guests well and so they prefer handling it their selves or over to just anybody. But, I would say good caterers are worth the while because they save you from unnecessary stress and worries about your guests getting food. They equally take the burden of food not going round off you. So you sure need a GOOD caterer.

3. Make Sure Your Caterer Has More Than Enough Servers: Oh! Some caterers have no servers, they depend on relatives of the celebrant to help, some have just two or three and I tell you, such caterers will mess up your event especially if it’s a big one. Ensure there are more than enough servers assigned to specific number of people in the hall. This way, food and drinks service can be managed well. You can also avoid some guests eating more than once while some are left totally unattended to.

4. If Possible, Don’t Use A Caterer Who’s Your Relative: This is because a caterer who is family or over familiar with the family will most likely be sentimental and concentrate majorly on the family members at the detriment of other guests. Except he/she is highly professional, they will likely push more food and drinks to where those they know are seated leaving the other guests with little or nothing.

5. Ensure There’s Food Reserved: I have seen people fight really dirty at parties because of food. Some parties end abruptly because food has finished and most guests haven’t eaten and so they are angry and they leave the event. So it is more than important that you reserve food. Make sure you have food reserved even if your caterer is highly professional. Reserve food, I repeat, reserve food because of people who might be be important to you that might get to the party late. Also, reserve food to avoid embarrassment from guests.
