Top Comedian Donates Kidney To Save Brother’s Life

What you are about to read is neither a joke, nor is it a Nollywood film waiting to be released! We can authoritatively

It has been reveal that ace humour merchant Iruvwe O. Don a.k.a De-Don has gone under the knife to save his immediate elder brother, Iruvwe E.Morris who has kidney failure.

It is understood that Morris had kidney failure in 2009 and one of De-Don’s elder sisters actually donated one of hers for the transplant, which was sponsored by Delta Baptist Church. Morris is said to have been going to India for yearly check-up – until 2012 when he could not go, due to financial problems.

Morris did order for his routine drugs from India, unfortunately the drugs arrived later than expected. he has since not taken the drugs for a number of weeks. Hence the 2009 transplanted kidney failed in January 2013. Things became rather rough as there were further financial challenges as Morris resulted to daily dialysis since January, up to July 2013.

Quite pathetic? Confirming the story via telephone, De- Don said, “I have been doing shows here and there to raise funds because I am ashamed to beg. Now that the money is ready for the surgery, the only person who is both fit and willing to donate is myself, because several tests were carried before I was considered the chosen one. I consider the fact that this can happen to anybody. (…sobs) If God has placed me in the position to save my brother’s life then it’s a huge opportunity to enjoy God’s favour.

I thought this only happens to people who drink excessive alcohol and who smoke. But my brother neither smokes nor drinks alcohol. Come to think of it, you need only one kidney to live a lifetime, why not give the other to someone else to live again? It’s like having surplus food and watching people go hungry,” De-don concluded.

De-Don needs little or no introduction in the Nigerian entertainment industry. Apart from being one of the first generation of stand-up comedians in Nigeria, his programme on Rainbow 94.1 FM, ‘Comedy Happy Hour with De-Don’ is actually the first stand-up comedy show on radio in Nigeria. He has also featured in quite a number of shows for big brands and at numerous ‘A-class’ events.
