H.E.B Exclusive Interview With Tosin Opaleye, Creative Director At Topal Touch

One of Nigeria’s leading creative director and beauty consultant, Tosin Opaleye of Topal Touch shares with us the dynamics of her brand and what keeps her going. Reading her inspiring interview below.

Helen: LET US MEET YOU
Tosin: I’m Opaleye Anuoluwapo Tosin, from Oyo State, I graduated from
Kwara State Polytechnic in Marketing, I’m a Makeup Artist, Beauty
consultant and the Creative Director of Topal Touch.

Helen: HOW DID YOU START YOUR MAKEUP BUSINESS?
Tosin: It all started in my higher institution and since then it’s been
hard work all the way.

Helen: WHAT WERE THE START-UP CHALLENGES YOU FACED AND HOW DID YOU
Tosin: Was when some people askd for makeup charges and replied your
charges is much that they got someone to do the makeup half of what
I’m charging them. Also, trying to convince a client about makeup
colors that suits their skin tone and at the end the look wowed them.

Helen: WHAT WAS YOUR INSPIRATION FOR STARTING UP THE BUSINESS?
Tosin : I love colors, playing with the eyes, lips and face was fascinating
and fulfilling. Also from Tara Fela-Durotoye, I read her biographies,
interviews and her words of wisdom.

Helen: HOW DO YOU SATISFY YOUR CLIENTS?
Tosin: By recognizing the need of our client and to enhance their beauty.

Helen : WHAT PART OF YOUR JOB DO YOU FIND TASKING OR UNENJOYABLE?
Tosin: hmmmm! I love every parts of the job except when it comes to
standing and not been in a cool environment.

Helen: HOW DO YOU DEAL WITH DIFFICULT SITUATION AND CLIENTS?
Tosin: Whatever the situation may be I’ve learnt to understand people
around me, most important is I try to always maintain calmness under
pressure and always smile often I can never tell when I’m being
snapped by clients friends or photographer.

Helen: WHAT IS THE TOP MAKEUP TREND FOR BRIDE’S?
Tosin: Contouring is now a huge trend in makeup for any special occasion,
it’s flatters the shape of your face by enhancing your cheekbones,
defining your nose and adding overall defined structure. Bronzer and
Peach or pink lipstick are my favourites with brides ditching
traditional nude.

Helen: WHAT SINGLE MAKEUP PRODUCT IS MOST IMPORTANT FOR A BRIDE TO HAVE ON HER WEDDING DAY?
Tosin: Foundation- it gives a flawless face and natural looking coverage.

Helen: WHAT SETS YOU APART FROM OTHER MAKEUP ARTIST AND WHERE DO YOU SEE YOUR BRAND IN 10 YEARS TIME?
Tosin: Less is more and because I know the right makeup that suit each
client to enhance their beauty. In 10 years, I see my brand to be the
reference in the beauty and fashion world of makeup.

Helen: WHAT’S YOUR ADVICE FOR PEOPLE WHO WANT TO GO INTO MAKEUP BUSINESS BUT DOESNT KNOW HOW?
Tosin: Must learn or know the theoretical and practical aspect of makeup,
make sure you follow the current trends, attend seminars and
workshops. Don’t allow money to be your reason, be passionate and be
patient.
