Ajarat Motunrayo is the MD of A-Jays Cream Cake and Event Decor Academy.. The young, vibrant CEO shared her success story and tips with us at H.E.B. Enjoy!

Helen: Pls introduce yourself and tell us what you do.
Ajarat: I am Ojo Ajarat Motunrayo.. A graduate of University of Lagos 09/10.. I am a baker / event decorator

Helen: When did you start baking and who taught you?
Ajarat: I started baking on the 6th of May 2013. I was taught by DCM *smiles*…

Helen: What type of cakes do you make and do you have a signature cake or style?
Ajarat: I make cakes for all occasions.

Helen: What are the highlights and breakthrough moments in the growth of your business?
Ajarat: That was 17th of August 2014 wen I opened/launched my academy..
A-jay’s Cream Cake & Event Decor Academy . I must confess that was a great breakthrough which happened in a short while (God’s mercy it is)

Helen: How much input does your clients have in the design of a cake?
Ajarat: Most clients just tell me to make a very good design as they trust my capability.. So far so good , sure I haven’t disappointed 98%.. While some have a particular design they want and I deliver.

Helen: Do you always have a backup plan incase anything goes wrong?
Ajarat: Hmmm. Yes! I bake extra cakes.. But I haven’t experienced any all through the journey

Helen: How do you keep yourself up- to-date in terms of techniques and style?
Ajarat: I surf online on daily basis…

Helen: What are your tips or advice for your clients as they choose the cake design?
Ajarat: Some clients are adamant while some would see reasons with you. Some want exactly the design they have chosen, while some would tell you to make the best out of the design.. So it’s left to us ” not to fall our hands” lol. So I am always working towards the best

Helen: Describe a typical busy baking day?
Ajarat: Choi! Up and doing.. No food, No rest! just chilled water when you start seeing double at the verge of fainting…lol… Bathing must be the 1st thing before you get started , if not….. You are so on your own.. Lol

Helen: What lessons have you learned in running your business that you can pass to those considering a career in cake making?
Ajarat: The Creativity… I just love it… So much in love with it.

Helen: What lessons have you learned in running your business that you can pass to those considering a career in cake making?
Ajarat: Cake making is not an easy task I must confess… In cake making, don’t work for money… Make it a passion.. Never rate yourself low, aim high.. Commitment must be your watchword.. Don’t work for less.. Imagine all nature as cake. Speak to yourself *I can do it*, “never say never” If one keeps to all these, your job will surely speak for you… And Hey! There you are, up in the sky.

Helen: What inspires you?
Ajarat: Money.. Lols! Just kidding. Inspiration comes in differents forms… In Summary “Nature” does.. I just wanna make something unique and different

Ajarat: “Giggles” Myself
