What Not To Do When Your Friend Gets Engaged

Published

on

#1: Do NOT post ANYTHING about the engagement on social media before the couple!

Allow the couple to be the first to break the news to their social media networks. Some couples want to make sure that their family and friends hear the news before seeing it on social media. The couple may also want to enjoy a few quite moments of engagement bliss before the congratulatory calls, texts and emails. Take the couple’s lead on the social media posts. Let them be first — ALWAYS.

#2: Do NOT start prying and asking about wedding details

The couple got engaged about 2 seconds ago — they don’t know what the wedding date is, the location, if you will get a +1 or not, or where they’ll honeymoon. Slow your horses.

#3: Do NOT ask how many carats the ring is

This could be the most tacky question of them all. Please refrain from asking this question. She is marrying the love of her life and most likely concentrating on that commitment. This question is for 6 months from now, when you’re sharing a bottle of wine on the couch watchingThe Bachelor. Every time I hear or see this question I want to scream, “Were you raised in a barn?”

#5: Do NOT ask if you can try her engagement ring on

There are no facts in this old wives tale, but many say it’s bad luck to try-on a friend’s engagement ring. Who wants to play with that bad luck? Definitely not me.
