How To Get Married Legally In Nigeria
Go to the Marriage Registry and pick a form for #500. Fill and return with two passport photographs of you and your spouse. A 21 day notice will be issued to the public at the registry for any objection(s) to the proposed marriage. After the notice and no objection is raised, you go back to the registry and pick a form for the the solemnization for #15,000. You can choose a date for the vows. Bring your ring, Bible, cowrie or whatever you so choose and in less than 30minutes, you are legally married.
All licensed churches follow this procedure. It therefore means that with #15, 500( fifteen thousand five hundred naira only) you are legally married. You can go to your house for reception just the way you people do your child dedication or you give take away packed foods, take pictures and go home.
The rest of the money you’ve gathered, you can start a business with your spouse and build your empire gradually. Remember that one can chase a thousand while two can put ten thousands to flight???
Some people loose great partners because of unaffordable expectations. Some get too broke after spending on weddings.
Whether you like it or not, as soon as you are married, people automatically think you have made it in life. In-laws, distant cousins, “your mama na my sister brother”, etc will start rolling in to pluck. Gossips will come “see this one wey don marry, she no dey change clothe?” “This her husband no dey see food chop?” and your wives will start feeding you with carbohydrates at night until pot belly appear just so you don’t appear broke, but the truth is, you are broke! Church will send you special fund raising unto Mr and Mrs.
Forget people. Build your life with your spouse at your level now. With team work, hard work, focus and consistency, you will lend to nations. Selah!

Dear Helen,
Your article is VERY true. You and your new husband will start your married life in debt, if you don’t be careful.
I was in that situation and it made our 1st year of Marriage very tough, because we worried about our finances.
I beg o! Put GOD first, your spouse and immediate family. Don’t waste your future endeavours on PARTY.
You can still have a very nice wedding and celebration with moderate spending. You will be happy for it later.
Thank you!
-No unnecessary spending
