One Tony Rapu, who was among four persons allegedly defrauded by a businesswoman, Olaremi Dilureni, has been found to be a player in the oil and gas industry.

A source told PUNCH Metro on Wednesday that a Lagos-based pastor, Tony Rapu, who shared the same name with the business executive, was usually mistaken for the victim.

The News Agency of Nigeria had reported on Tuesday that Pastor Rapu, who is a senior pastor at the House of Freedom Church, was the victim of the fraud.

The report had said Dilureni, who traded under the name, Creadon Ventures, faced eight counts bordering on conspiracy, obtaining money under false pretences and stealing, slammed on her by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.

The lead prosecutor for the EFCC, Mrs. Fadeke Giwa, had said Dilureni committed the offence of conspiracy alongside four others, now at large, between March and May 2013.

The nursing murder had been remanded by the court.

A source in Pastor Rapu’s church said, “Pastor Rapu was not the one involved in the incident. It is not the first time that such a mix-up would happen. He has never invested in a diesel business and he is not party to any case with the EFCC.”
