The Lagos state government has announced that it’s now mandatory for residents in the state to wear facemasks.

Lagos state governor, Babajide Sanwo-olu made made the announcement today.

He said ‘The COVID-19 pandemic not only brought ill health into our dear country, it also reaffirmed the need for a total overhaul of how we live, interact, transact business and socialize.

It is imperative that we live consciously and intentionally, not just for ourselves, but for everyone we come in contact with.

This therefore informed our decision in making the use of facemasks compulsory for everyone, because they help in ensuring that our secretions from coughs and sneezes do not drop on the people around us, but are rather absorbed by our facemasks.
3 million cotton facemasks are currently being produced, to be distributed to residents across the state.

In as much as we would want to make use of the medical ones, let’s try to refrain from using them, so they will be readily available to the frontline health workers who need them the most.

Residents should also ensure that hygiene is top priority when using face masks. The use of wet and dirty masks would pose the same threat to our health as much as not wearing masks at all.

I hereby encourage Lagosians to comply with this directive by inculcating a masked lifestyle.
Please adopt it as part of your everyday outfit, as it will serve a greater purpose of preserving not only your health, but the health of everyone around you.

And always remember that, a “MASKED UP Lagos, is a safer Lagos”
Thank You.
