Babajide Balogun Joins League Of Ambassadors As ECOWAS Youth Parliament’s 65th Ambassador
The news has been buzzing all over social media, but now it’s official, Babajide A. Balogun, scion of the prestigious Balogun family has been appointed as the 65th Ambassador of the Ecowas Youth Parliament following his nomination by the body.
In an exclusive chat with On Social Media, Balogun revealed that the nomination had been communicated to him via a letter dated April 22, but on Wednesday, April 28, he was officially inducted, decorated and welcomed into the Ecowas hall of fame at the Ecowas Parliament Hall, Abuja.
Speaking on what inspired the choice of Balogun, the Clerk of the parliament, Comrade Zakari Hashim, CNS described Ambassador Babajide A. Balogun as an outstanding philanthropist in societal transformation whose life has been very instrumental to Nigerian youths, ECOWAS member states and Africa as a whole.
“This honour for the ambassador is in recognition of his impressive track records of diligent services, stewardship, foresight and integrity exhibited so far in human capacity development and youth empowerment programs,” he said.
The ECOWAS Youth Parliament (EYP) is a conglomeration of youths, and the largest youth parliament in sub-Saharan Africa with youths across the 15 countries of ECOWAS community in promoting unity and advocating for peace, justice and strong institution.
Comrade Hashim while congratulating the recipient, used the occasion to call on him to continue with this philanthropic activities, particularly the medical outreach, educational support to vulnerable children and mentorship for youth inclusiveness in governance and nation-building.
Ambassador Balogun in his acceptance speech, appreciated the parliament for finding him worthy and decorating him into the Ecowas Hall of Fame. He said that his nomination will encourage him to do more in serving humanity because it has been his manta to make a strong positive impact wherever he finds himself.
“I never thought to bring my charitable deeds into public domain until a few close friends and mentors drew my attention to the fact that publishing activities of my foundation will motivate and encourage others to emulate these gestures. I was encouraged and then decided to register the BB foundation as a Non-governmental organisation to formally render humanitarian services to communities and vulnerable Nigerians as well as ECOWAS member states where most needed,” he stated.
It would be remembered that Ambassador Balogun, a politician cum philanthropist had run for office following the passing of the ‘not too young to run’ bill into law. At the time he had contested for the Ifako-Ijaiye Constituency II seat in the Lagos House of Assembly. Following that his philanthropic activities trailed well into the heat of the pandemic, as his foundation had an enviable presence amongst youth and the underprivileged. His medical outreach programmes, which were well documented in the media attracted even more humanitarians to the people’s cause.
